Flying Geese Quilters Guild

The cost to have a quilt judged is $10.00

To have your quilt  judged, submit 1) the application form,  2) the entry form, and 3) a check for $10.00, by the July 2007 Guild Meeting.  Checks should be made payable to Flying Geese Quilters Guild Return entry forms and checks to L. Martin - please look up her address in the directory. Don't have a directory - - click here

First, Second and Third prize will be awarded in the following categories:

Bed Quilts (60 inches x 80 inches or larger)

  1. Appliqué
  2. Pieced
  3. Mixed Techniques
  4. Group

Large Wall Quilts (larger than 40 inches x 45 inches )

  1. Appliqué
  2. Pieced
  3. Mixed Techniques
  4. Group

Small Quilts (up to 40 inches x 45 inches)

  1. Appliqué
  2. Pieced
  3. Mixed Techniques
  4. Group

Only one award will be given in the following categories:
Note: Quilts in the following categories can be any size unless noted.

  1. Pictorial
  2. Miniature
  3. Most Humorous
  4. Best Hand Quilting
  5. Best Machine Quilting – by quilt maker.  Note: If the quilt was quilted by someone other than the quilt maker, it MUST be entered in the Group Category.
  6. Theme
  7. Art
  8. Judge's Choice
  9. Viewer's Choice
  10. Doll
  11. Wearable Arts

Category descriptions:
Appliqué – quilts that are 51% or more appliquéd
Pieced – quilts that are 51% or more pieced using patterns and inspirations from existing quilt history and/or expand on patterns to create altered designs.
Mixed Techniques – quilts that do not fit into other defined categories, including embroidered, crazy, yo-yo, cathedral window, tied, red work, etc.
Group – any quilt on which more than one person has worked.  Any quilt that has been quilted for remuneration MUST be entered into this category.
Theme – any quilt that follows the theme of the quilt show.  Must be recognizable.
Art – quilts of original design made with artistic intent that use color, design, and construction techniques to create a work that expands beyond traditional quilts.
Pictorial – a pictorial design is defined as a recognizable person, animal, plant, place (landscape, cityscape, etc.) For example; a pictorial quilt could be a design with a child holding a puppy in a field of daisies with mountains in the background.
Miniature – a quilt that is scaled down (miniaturized) and bound; one which represents a full sized quilt.  Includes all techniques.
Future Quilters – this is their first time entering a quilt show.  This could be any size quilt.
Most Humorous – a quilt that depicts something humorous.
Best Hand quilting – a quilt that has been entirely hand quilted.
Best Machine Quilting – a quilt that has been quilted on a domestic, computerized or long arm machine.
Judge’s Choice – awarded by the judge.
Viewer’s Choice – awarded by the public.
Wearable Arts – awarded by the public.
Doll – awarded by the public.
